Our little winter explorers have been fully embracing the magic of the season with a week packed full of hands-on discovery and creativity!
From messy play to ice cube painting and scissor cutting activities, every day has been filled with laughter, learning, and lots of wonderfully colourful chaos.
The children were fascinated by our frozen paint adventure, carefully holding the icy cubes and watching in amazement as the colours slowly melted onto the paper. As the ice began to soften, they experimented with movement, pressure, and blending, creating beautiful winter masterpieces unique to each child. This sensory-rich activity encouraged them to explore different textures and temperatures, sparking natural curiosity about how things change and react.
Messy play continues to be a firm favourite, giving little ones the freedom to explore without limits. Whether squishing, spreading, or swirling colours together, they were developing important early skills while expressing their creativity in their own way. These open-ended activities support communication, problem-solving, and imaginative thinking — all while having lots of fun.
Our scissor cutting activities were equally exciting, helping to strengthen fine motor skills and build hand-eye coordination. With careful concentration, the children practised holding and controlling their scissors, gaining confidence as they cut shapes and created their winter-themed designs. These small but significant movements play a big role in preparing little hands for future writing skills.
At The Abbey Nursery, we believe learning is at its best when children are actively engaged, exploring through play, and discovering the world around them in their own unique way. There’s nothing better than seeing busy little hands, big smiles, and proud faces as they show off their creations.
