This week at Blackbrook Children’s Nursery, our Reception children have been exploring the wonderful world of seasons and discovering how nature changes throughout the year. From sunshine and blooming flowers to falling leaves and chilly frost, the children have been learning about different types of weather and how animals travel in search of warmer climates.
To bring their learning to life, the children explored a range of textured tuff trays carefully designed to represent each season. Using their senses, they investigated a variety of materials, while being introduced to new descriptive language to explain how things felt, looked, smelled, and sounded.
Creative development has also been a big focus, with children strengthening their scissor skills by cutting and snipping seasonal images. Alongside this, they used their fine motor skills to shape and mould playdough into seasonal trees, experimenting with different tools to create patterns and textures.
One of the highlights of the week was building seasonal trees using colourful maths cubes. The children carefully selected and matched colours to represent Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—combining creativity with early maths skills.
At Blackbrook Children’s Nursery, we love supporting children to explore, create, and learn through hands-on experiences that build confidence and curiosity every day.
